Research interests

I have worked and I work in various fields of geomorphology, engineering geology, geology and information science, including:

  • identification and mapping of landslides in different climatic, geological and morphological environments,

  • analysis of types and spatial distribution of landslides in relation to geological and structural settings,

  • methods for the definition of landslide susceptibility and hazard,

  • temporal forecasting of landslides, using historical information and multi-temporal inventory data,

  • frequency distributions of the size (e.g., area, volume) of landslides,

  • acquisition and use of historical information on landslides and floods for the assessment of the geo-hydrological hazards and risk,

  • vulnerability to landslides of different elements at risk , including the population,

  • definition and mapping of landslide risk, including societal and individual landslide and flood risk,

  • definition of rainfall and hydrological thresholds for the possible triggering of landslides,

  • landslide forecasting and early warning systems

  • landslides and climate,

  • general morphometry,

  • application of GIS and Web-GIS technologies for the analysis and publication of geomorphological information,

  • dissemination of information on hazard, vulnerability and geo-hydrological risk, and

  • geo-ethics, natural hazards, and risk.
